The breed originated in the late 19th century in Scotland. Dudley Marjoribanks, also known as Lord
Tweedmouth, is credited with developing the breed.

Purpose

Initially bred for retrieving game, Golden Retrievers excel in the field due to their keen sense of smell
and swimming ability.

Popularity

Their amicable nature and intelligence soon made them popular as family pets and service dogs.

Standardization

The breed was first recognized by The Kennel Club in 1911 and by the American Kennel Club in 1925.
